Why I’ll Always Choose Kitsap County

There’s something about Kitsap County that’s hard to explain unless you’ve lived here. It’s not just one thing, it’s the way all the little things stack up. The people. The water. The towns that somehow feel connected and independent at the same time. The fact that you can run into someone at the grocery store and then be cheering them on at their small business opening a week later.

I’ve lived here long enough to know this place isn’t perfect — but it is special. And the longer I stay, the more reasons I find to love calling Kitsap home.

Here are a few of the things that make this community what it is.

One of my favorite things about Kitsap is how small it feels in the best possible way. You might meet someone standing in line at Safeway or chatting at a coffee shop, and the next day you’re following their business on Instagram or stopping by their shop. Supporting local here isn’t a trend…it’s just how things work.

Places like The Loft, 303 Coffee, The Manette Saloon, Nordiska… they aren’t just businesses, they’re part of people’s routines. You don’t just shop or eat there, you build relationships.

And that sense of connection runs deep.

We’re surrounded by water, and somehow it never gets old. Whether it’s a ferry ride, a dockside walk, or just catching a glimpse of the Puget Sound on your way to run errands, the water is always there, grounding you, slowing things down just enough. Living this close to the shoreline is something you don’t fully appreciate until you realize how much it shapes daily life.

At the same time, Kitsap isn’t just a county, it’s a collection of incredible towns, each with its own personality. Bremerton feels gritty and creative. Poulsbo leans into its charm. Silverdale keeps things moving. Port Orchard balances growth and community. Bainbridge feels like a getaway that people actually live in. You can explore a different town every weekend and still feel like you’re home.

And when you want the city? Seattle is right there. Hop on the ferry, grab a coffee, enjoy the skyline, and then come back to quieter streets and familiar faces by the end of the day. That balance is everything.

Kitsap is also a Navy community through and through. That brings diversity, resilience, and a deep understanding that people come and go, but community stays. It’s a place where you learn to welcome newcomers quickly and show up for people just as fast.

We saw that especially clearly this fall. When things got hard, Kitsap residents rallied. People donated, volunteered, checked in on neighbors, supported local causes, and made sure no one felt alone. That’s not something you can fake, that’s community muscle built over time.

Kitsap County has heart. It has grit. It has a way of reminding you that community still matters, and that home isn’t just a house, it’s the people who surround you.

That’s why I love living here. And that’s why helping people find their place in this community never gets old.
