Turning the Page to a New Beginning
Every year, I’m amazed by how much this community shows up for one another. And this year, the support for my third annual book drive for the Kitsap Foster Care Association (KFCA) was incredible.
We’ve all got those books lying around at home—ones we never read anymore, or that we’ve outgrown. Instead of letting them collect dust, why not put them to good use, right? That’s exactly what we did, and once again, the people of Kitsap showed up in such a big way. Books started rolling in from every direction, and I knew this year was going to be something special.
For those who don’t know, the Kitsap Foster Care Association (KFCA) has been supporting foster kids and families in our area since 1991. They’re an amazing non-profit that goes above and beyond what the state can provide. KFCA does everything from stocking a clothing closet with clothes, diapers, and formula, to hosting fun family activities like swimming, roller skating, and bowling. They also offer support with training, resources, and even scholarships for things like summer camp, sports, and prom. It’s all about helping foster kids feel loved, supported, and connected to their community.
Now, let’s talk about the 2024 Fun Aunt Rachel’s Book Drive… it was one for the books! (See what I did there?!) Thanks to all of you, we collected over 1,000 books—double what we gathered last year! We filled up two carloads of books and brought them all to the KFCA Christmas gift day.
The best part of all this is that it’s not just about donating books. It’s about coming together as a community to support kids who need it the most. You all came through in such a big way, and I’m honestly blown away by the generosity. The kids in care are going to get so much joy out of these books—stories that will take them to new places and help them grow in ways we can’t even imagine.
So what’s next? I’m already excited to see what we can do for next year’s book drive. If this year is any indication, we’re just getting started! I can’t wait to see how we can make an even bigger impact in the lives of these kids.
