Bring back the starter home.

4 years ago - Before & Afters of my #StarterHome

I feel like we have forgotten the concept of a starter home. The sacrifice of building equity. And I want to change that - and regain the hope in homeownership.

In 2015 | fell in love with this #fixerupper - unfortunately I could not pay cash for it, as it was in too much disrepair to finance. As I watched it get fixed up a little, I grew a pair of balls and asked if I could buy it once it was done. The house was fixed up, and original character was left - and I fixed up the outside over 5 years of ownership.

I bought this house in downtown #Bremerton because I knew I would be starting work at the Shipyard, and rather than pay for parking. I figured it might be a good idea to just buy a house where I could walk to work.

It was a little bit more than I wanted to spend at the time, but I fell in love with this home that I called The Gem. In the true spirit of starter home fashion, after living in that house for five years, I actually sold it for more than twice as much as I paid for it. That is the goal in a starter home.

In 2025 I want to work on showing people the concept of a starter home and regained the hope of homeownership. Because it is possible! With a little blood, sweat and tears, equity is in the cards for everyone.
